Conference: The Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Criminal Justice System

On 22 October 2020, The Seminar Committee at Ahmed bin Muhammad Military College (ABMMC) hosted a conference under the title “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Criminal Justice System”, given by Dr. Anwar Masadeh, Professor at the Law Department at ABMMC. The conference provided a thorough overview of the current practices pertaining to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the criminal justice system, with a special focus on the area of anti-money laundering. Dr. Masadeh discussed some of the legal challenges posed by financial crimes such as money-laundering and provided concrete examples on how artificial intelligence can be leveraged to address those issues. The conference ended with a rich discussion between the attendees regarding various key ethical and legal issues related to the use of artificial intelligence in the criminal justice system including questions of privacy, autonomy, and legal liability.
